The HD version renders the original almost obsolete with its 60 FPS, button controls, and portability. Unless you specifically want the authentic 2011 MotionPlus experience on a CRT television, skip the WBFS hassle.
Since 2020, most USB loaders also support FAT32 and NTFS with WBFS files stored in a wbfs folder. You no longer need a dedicated WBFS partition.
Why is FAT32 preferred? It offers the best compatibility with all major USB loaders (like USB Loader GX, Configurable USB Loader, and WiiFlow) and also works seamlessly with emulators and homebrew apps like Nintendont for playing GameCube games.
WBFS is a file format designed to store Wii ROMs on external memory. Unlike standard ISO files, which are exact 4.3 GB copies of a game disc including "junk" or padding data, a discards that useless data to significantly reduce the file size.
Playing Skyward Sword via WBFS on the Dolphin Emulator unlocks a level of visual fidelity the original Wii hardware couldn't reach.
What (Windows, Mac, Android) or homebrew setup are you currently using?
If you own the disc and have a compatible DVD drive, Dolphin Emulator (v5.0+) can directly dump and compress the game to WBFS or RVZ (modern format). Go to Tools > Load Wii Game from Disc .
